I've just re-watched Bridget Jones, a film I watched in its Italian translation when it first came out (2001). I'd never watched it in English, so I took the chance and discovered some nice things.
One of them is Hugh Grant's accent. Just amazing!
Grant's accent is an inheritance from his mother and, on Inside the Actors Studio in 2002, he credited her with "any acting genes that [he] might have." (source: Wikipedia)
Grant and many other actors use Received Pronunciation; this article explains when and how RP developed. Did you know there was no RP in the 1700s?
Do you have a favourite accent?
Enjoy your Sunday,
- Raum
Thanks to Momatu's suggestion (see comments below), here's a video with Robert Pattinson talking about British/American accent.

ReplyDeleteYes! Rob's! (But I could settle for Hugh Grant's if I had to!)
Smiles and waves! New chapter of Snare tomorrow, yes?
